Most of Stephanie's paintings involves a monotype approach which encourages deliberate, fast and focused mark making.
Using a palette knife, plexi glass and oil based paint and inks, each work is done with a subtractive method of adding and removing paint. The whole surface of plexi-glass is covered in paint. With a palette knife, an initial “sketch” is carved out in paint and worked into directly onto the plexi-glass surface.
Using her own body weight, Stephanie makes a "first impression" by transferring paint between plexi-glass onto paper or board.
As a result, boundaries are broken and perfectly defined marks become altered. This method encourages and challenges her to work spontaneously- without rigidity and without control.
Next, layers of paint are added until the piece is complete.
